Local Author Ekaterina Botziou releases third title

Kicking off 2015 with a bang, Wimbledon author Ekaterina Botziou has turned her hand to poetry with the release of her latest literary endeavour, Seraphina: A short story in verse

Set in medieval times, the dark story follows a young girl’s quest to seek vengeance for the death of her parents and is written entirely in poetic narrative.

Having made her mark in the comedy genre with books Greek Expectations: The Last Moussaka Standing and Theseus & the Mother-in-Law, Ekaterina, 27, decided to broaden her repertoire after reaching the final shortlist for Australian literary journal  Vines Leaves Press with a vignette entitled Stripped Bare.  She wrote Seraphina as an experimental short story after being inspired by poems in the Vine Leaves annual vignette collection.

Having studied various poets throughout her education, Ekaterina believes that poetry is often overlooked as a literary form of enjoyment and is associated more with rigid academic studies.

“I read a very interesting article recently that explained how readers often feel separated from the poet and are turned off by apparent arrogance. That I can understand. Whilst I enjoyed atmospheric works such as Porphyria’s Lover by Robert Browning, and The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, being forced to analyse endless metaphors afflicted with alliteration, assonance and ambiguity definitely dulled the experience. At the same time, writing my own poetry has always felt very gratifying and in a way, more artistic than writing standard narrative.”

The start of the new year has been extremely busy for the law graduate who juggles a full time job in finance alongside her other projects. In January she launched the official website for her networking group The Greek Wives Club ( www.thegreekwivesclub.com) which acts as a platform to allow members to socialise with like-minded individuals and help to promote businesses, bloggers, authors and others whose work centres around relevant Greek themes.

Operating on a world-wide basis, affiliates include Greek events companies, mentoring associations, relationship advisers, Greek fashion designers, Greek authors and food bloggers. Whilst there is a strong female vibe and featured members include critically acclaimed authors such as Sofka Zinovieff and Eve Makis, as well as My Greek Kitchen‘s Tonia Buxton, The Greek Wives Club are happy to promote supportive gents such as the director of Papadopoulos and Sons Marcus Markou and travel writer Harry Bucknall.

Ekaterina stresses that you don’t have to be a Greek wife to join in but you do need to have a sense of humour!

With three books, a blog, a networking website and a whole host of other projects under her belt, 2015 looks set to be very productive for the young writer.

Seraphina is available to buy from Amazon Worldwide in Paperback and on Kindle from Friday February 6th.

Congratulations Ekaterina, that is great news. Nice to see you getting some well-deserved wider-recognition. I am sure Seraphina will be a big success and hopefully re-introduce people back into the joys of poetry, especially poetic narrative. Bravo!
