What to wear to a Greek Wedding: LOOKBOOK

What to wear to a Greek Wedding: LOOKBOOK

So this post is something very different to my usual blogs and videos. This originally was going to be more of a comedy post about the outlandish outfits I’ve seen some guests wear to Greek functions. Then I thought that perhaps I should do a proper fashion post that could inspire anyone for wedding season. And thus a what to wear to a Greek wedding lookbook post sprang to mind! So I went on a massive ASOS shopping spree (btw I am returning most of it!) and selected a few different dresses that could be worn to a wedding or christening or special occasion.

I enlisted the help of my sister The Gluten Free Greek and we had a fun-filled afternoon posing and preening for the camera to bring you this first ever ‘lookbook’ on my blog. This is not a fashion blog and whilst I do use a semi-professional camera, the pics won’t be making the cover of Vogue (!) but I hope they can at least provide some inspiration for anyone going to a Greek (or non-Greek!) wedding or event soon.

I picked five dresses, one of which my sister and I both wore – so there are technically six dresses, but five looks. All mine were a size 10 and my sister had size 8. I LOVE pastel shades for spring/summer weddings and some of these pieces could absolutely be worn as a bridesmaid dress.

Look One

So here I am wearing the embellished maxi dress by Little Mistress. I don’t usually wear maxi dresses but I really liked this one and the beading at the top really gave the dress a classy and elegant touch. This piece would be perfect as a bridesmaid dress and could suit different body shapes due to it’s flattering style and flowing fabric.

Look Two

Christiana is modelling the petite shoulder dress from Asos’ own range. The dress was actually too small for her (!) and we couldn’t do the zip up at the side. Despite being very slim, Christiana rarely wears ‘petite’ clothes. So do bear in mind that you may need to go up a size if you purchase anything in the petite range. The dress sits just above the knee.

Look Three

My sister is very much a lemon girl and this one shoulder dress from Little Mistress really suited her although again she found it quite tight. This is less frilly than the pink dress above but the silver beading on the shoulder strap give it a touch of glamour. This dress would be perfect for any summer event. It could be dressed up with accessories or made to look more casual with simple flat sandals.

Look Four

By far our favourite dress was this Grecian-style number from TFNC. It was originally also available in a greyish lavender colour but I’m so glad I went for the mint Green as it looks so fresh and really eye-catching. It was also very comfortable although you might like to pin the plunging neckline together to make it a little more classy. One side of the dress sits just below the knee but there is a slit in the middle which comes up quite high. So do pick appropriate underwear! I ended up wearing this dress to my son’s christening and teamed it with high heeled silver diamante sandals.

Look Five

My last and least favourite look was another TFNC midi dress with an embellished waistline and a plunging neck. For some reason this dress made me look like I was in the first stages of pregnancy! For that reason it might actually be better as a maternity dress! I could not get a decent shot of this dress but on the plus side I loved the colour and the neckline and think it would definitely be a fun number for the right occasion.

And the rest…

I have to admit that Christiana and I had such a laugh shooting these pics! Particularly as most of the time we teamed the dresses with our crocs (!) which was definitely NOT a good look.

If any of the dress links no longer work or the item is out of stock do have a look at what else there is on ASOS. A lot of the dresses are very similar and you will most likely be able to find something almost identical but by a different brand.

I really hope this post has inspired/helped anyone looking for an outfit for a wedding or occasion coming up. Do let me know what you think of the dresses if you end up purchasing them for yourself!
