Lights! Camera! Powder! Lipgloss! Music! Cue Models!
This weekend I visited Somerset House to attend the Vodafone London Fashion Weekend. As a mere mortal, and therefore not part of the exclusive elite tradespersons allowed into London Fashion Week, instead I had to make do with tickets to the designer catwalk and access to fashion lines by some of London’s best emerging designers.
The morning catwalk (lasting a speedy 15 minutes) featured the eclectic Spring/Summer 2013 collection by Louise Gray; a mixture of aztec patterns and bright, bold colours.
Slightly deafened by the pumping catwalk soundtrack, I then spent the next four hours dizzily scouring rail upon rail of heavily discounted designer goods. Rooms were abundant with an array of apparel. Visitors madly ducked, dived and dodged over and under each other, frantically searching for that coveted designer bargain. Fashion fever had hit.
Finally, several hours and six Compeed blister patches later, I emerged victorious having nabbed myself three Greek-style Muller Yogurt sponsored compact mirrors, a free Radley Tote bag filled with goodies, and a Muubaa leather jacket for a fraction of the original retail price. Mission accomplished.
“Shopping is a woman thing. It’s a contact sport like football. Women enjoy the scrimmage, the noisy crowds, the danger of being trampled to death, and the ecstasy of the purchase.” – Erna Bombeck
