As you will no doubt know by now (!), a couple of Monday’s ago I turned 30. Yes I know, I’ve been banging on about it the whole month. But I wanted to mark my coming of age in some way! It’s quite common for people to start re-evaluating their lives when they enter a new decade and it doesn’t have to be in a negative way. Perhaps you now have the confidence/finances to try a new career or go travelling. Perhaps now is the time to start a family. Perhaps now is the time to create a bucket list!
I’ve been thinking a lot about what I have achieved in my life and what I still want to do. So I’ve decided to make a bucket list for myself to look back on when I turn 40! Now I know you will probably expect me to have written thirty points on this list, but aside from all the usual materialistic things we all want, I don’t have that many demands so I’ve simply made two short lists – an achievable one and an impossible one, because hey, it’s good to dream.
REALISTIC BUCKET LIST
Publish my children’s books – this one has been ongoing for about a year now as I haven’t had the time to focus on it properly, but it’s all coming together… so watch this space!
Get into Blogosphere magazine – I’m not saying I want to be on the front cover (!) but I’ve decided that just a mention of the blog would be fantastic…and hopefully achievable!
Travel outside of Greece and Cyprus – I have dreams of taking the children to Lapland / Disney World / Center Parcs and so on but I think it’s best to wait until they are a little bit older so they can enjoy it more and have fun memories, as opposed to me having memories of a mental breakdown trying to control them both!
Charity work – I always give money to charities if I am able to but would like to do something where I can be a bit more involved. I used to do a bit of voluntary work some years at a local care home but it definitely takes time and dedication, something I don’t have a lot of with two monsters to look after!
Collaborate with other bloggers – there are so many fabulous bloggers and vloggers out there and I’m lucky enough to have become good friends with a few of them, but I would really like to collaborate with some of them and chuck some more craziness into the blogosphere!
Maintain a healthy lifestyle – ye, this one is going to be tricky. I don’t have many vices, but I definitely need to up my vegetable intake and drink more water. Especially now youth is no longer on my side!
Save for the future – this should probably go on the unrealistic bucket list…
UNREALISTIC BUCKET LIST
Win the lottery – so money can’t buy you happiness, BUT it can give you opportunities which in turn can lead to fulfilment and satisfaction and thus happiness.
Win an Oscar – I still dabble in the acting industry now and then so that role of a lifetime could still be hiding behind a corner. A very tiny corner. Somewhere far, far away.
Walk along the great wall of China – this might not be unrealistic for a lot of you who have travelled, but for me it seems highly unlikely that China will ever be on my list of destinations. For one, the Greek man is not keen. Two, the Greek man is not keen. Three, did I mention that the Greek man is not keen?
Win a lifetime supply of Cadbury’s Creme Eggs – my one true dream.
Obviously this list is not exhaustive and it changes from day to day. But I hope that in ten years time, and if I’m still blogging (yeesh!) I can look back at this list from my mansion in China, whilst sitting in a tub full of creme eggs, and write up a new bucket list for before I turn 50. OMG.
What’s on your bucket list?
