Looking to update your wardrobe with some fun vibrant pieces? Look no further than up and coming Greek fashion designer and inspirational artist Christina Louca. Christina first approached me last summer with the idea of a collaboration and was kind enough to send me a few sample pieces from her collection to try (which I then returned). Her stunningly unique designs combine eccentricity with wearability and are sure to turn heads at every corner.
Christina was born in Cyprus to refugee parents, her father a house painter, her mother a seamstress. From a young age it was clear that Christina was a designer in the making, as she played with leftover pieces from her mother’s clients to create unique clothing that others scoffed at.
Though discouraged from dreaming big, Christina’s dream would not die and her hard work paid off when she got the chance to work with fashion designers Sophia Alexander and Sophia Nicolaou, gaining experience in PR as well. Her breakthrough moment came in 2011 when she showcased her collection at her own fundraising fashion show in London’s West End.
The show proved to be a success and Christina’s use of unusual materials such as feathers, zippers, cables and wires became her trademark. By layering fabric, colours and materials in particular ways, she creates fashion that is inspired by the 1920s through to the 1960s but exudes something far more futuristic. Her pieces have been described as art on canvass, futuristic, asymmetrical and avantgarde, with an architectural component, likely due to her love of New York City.
Christina’s collection has been featured in Parikiaki, Style and The City Blog, Born Free Foundation’s website, Amor Magazine online and showbiz online website and her primary goal now is to raise awareness for the environment and endangered species though her fundraising shows, collections and sales.
A truly innovative artist who is unafraid to push boundaries and stamp out stereotypes, Christina Louca is a fashion force to be reckoned with and she is ready and waiting to take the fashion world by storm.
